Not much just Piedras

This is my cousin Andrea. Her and I had been apart for some time but we definitely made up for some of that time away this weekend. We spent some time with family but also spent time with eachother, cousins, and a few friends. I also got to meet some new people so that was great. :-)

Needless to say I am kinda tired but really happy so spend some time with my family especially the ones I hadn't seen in years, literally. I am still not sure if I will see them for New Year's but I am hoping that I do. More on everything else later. ...enjoy the pics.

We are all cousins! From Left to Right:
Me, Gerardo, Sareh, Andrea, and Diana.

Her and Daniel just got back from Canada which they will go back to on the 6th of January. They've been studying up there and from what I've heard it was a blast.

Of course it didn't stop us from having a blast at this club at Piedras Negras, Coah. Mexico

Here is Andrea with one of her best friends, Nalle. They look so cute! :-)

A While....

Yes, it has been a while. What can I say, I had to deal with a bunch of stuff. I had been ill for a while and that was not fun at all. I ended up having to miss work and school and I won't know what the doctor will do to me in January. She wanted to see me then, to see if I have to have surgery or something.
Basically playing catchup and everything. I have a final at 5pm today too so I've been studying through out the day. It's weird, everytime I see my own handwriting from even a month ago it seems foreign to me.
I had not posted anything in a while because I found no time to do it. Right now I am only taking a break from staring at my notes and then I'll hit the books again.

Did anyone see Big in O5' ? I did. I guess it was ok, I have a few comments on that but might post them later. I have also seen at least to movies since the last time I have written anything so I have something to say about that too.
I've seen the new Harry Potter movie, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Aeonflux. I really liked Aeonflux. I really didn't think I would like it as much as I did. The Chronicles could have been better. They skipped a lot of scenes that could have been enjoyable and justified because of the story line. Kids liked it, I could have sat there for another 45mins. watching relevant fight scenes and training exercises for the children. So that is that.

On Christmas: Still don't know if I am going to end up going to El Paso, TX or I will go to Eagle Pass to see my parents. I am not sure how New Year's looks like as of right now.Time will tell.

I hope I get to post something else before the year is over at least. Oh, and translate some pages.

One Way to Redeem Oneself...Go Orange

So the concert was great this weekend (more on it later), yesterday was Halloween and it was time to pick up my car (charger/ go to previous posting for story: Love At First Sight/ Hit Like You're Blind [ posted in October]).
I felt bad about doing that to it and I knew George liked the Daytona…long story short, he got it. We turned in the other keys and upgraded. It was a good deal, I was not going to pay that much more.
Basically, if they could not match the price that I wanted we were going to walk out of there with our gray car. So they matched the price and it was great. George is happy and a bit nervous as well but he will be ok. There are only 4000 Dodge Chargers Daytona made and ours is number 1665, yes they are all numbered. I was glad to get him a limited edition vehicle.

More about it later. I took the liberty of placing some pics. Love the leather seats!!
The pact was, “ You have a Daytona, so we will never bring up my little accident from now on. I think I’ve made up for it. I will not drive the Daytona until I am ready. I am a little overwhelmed with the whole thing right now.”

Stay

So I probably shouldn’t have but I went to watch Stay last night and got out kinda late. Pretty good movie, definitely my kind of movie in so many ways. I really like the young actor Ryan Gosling. Ever since I saw him on Murder by Numbers I really liked how he really can pull off that whole psychopath look.. Very impressive. I swear I am one of the few people that can really get into a movie to the point that I actually feel like I am there. Happens with very few movies though, the main one is Bram Stoker’s Dracula; my favorite.

I am also getting ready to go for my brother's concert on Saturday. My mother's house is going to be packed with people from all over the place. I was going to take pictures but now I will probably be working backstage. I'll post about it next week when I get a chance.

On ESPACIOS VACIOS

So I decided to mirror this blog to Espacios Vacios. I have cousins from Mexico who are now living in Canada since my uncle sent them to learn English. I know they are having and awesome time and they quick learners but I know that sometimes they don't get the jokes, or point like they could if they aren't in Spanish. So for their sakes and for the sake of some family members I will try to translate as much as I can from every post from now on. I will sent this link to my family members and friends that speak Spanish.
I will post more later.

Final Inspection

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shiningJust as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders
Said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked alot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Amoung the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much
But if you don't I'll understand.

"There was a silence all around the throne
Where saints had often trod
As the soldier waited quietly,

For the judgement of God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

RED FRIDAYS

I just received this in my e-mail this morning. If you browse for “Red Fridays” you will find that there are many organizations that are implementing the Red Fridays demonstrations. I think it’s neat that many people are putting this issue up for discussion in their blogs. Some have even become upset because they thought that by doing that we are not supporting President Bush. Well, I believe this has nothing to do with supporting Bush or his administration in anyway. I think this has everything to do with just supporting the troops. We need to support the men and women who are sacrificing being away from their love ones for so long, who sacrifice their very lives.
Whether it has been by choice because they believe in the cause, or because they are just following orders, fact of the matter is that there are hundreds of Americans overseas and they deserve to be supported in anyway possible. Ironically I am wearing red today. I didn’t even think about it, so I’ll take that as a sign. Have a great weekend!!

I thought this was well worth passing on. I hope you all agree and will follow suit. Have a great weekend!

RED FRIDAYS
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing
Red every Friday. The reason?

Americans who support our troops used to be called the
"silent majority".
We are no longer silent, and are voicing
our love for God, country and home
in record breaking numbers.
We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing. We
get no liberal media
coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our
opinions. Many Americans,
like you, me and all our friends, simply want to
recognize that the vast
majority of America supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our
troops with dignity and
respect starts this Friday -and continues each and
every Friday until the
troops all come home, sending a deafening message that..
Every red-blooded American who supports our men and
women afar, will wear
something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United
States on every Friday
a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in
the bleachers.
If every one of us who loves this country will share
this with acquaintances,
co-workers, friends, and family. It
will not be long before the USA is covered
in RED and it will let our troops
know the once "silent" majority is on
their side more than ever, certainly
more than the media lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked
"What can we do to make things better
for you?" is...We need your support and your prayers.
Let's get the word out and lead with class and
dignity, by example; and wear something red every Friday.
I sent this out to everyone on my email list.
Will you?

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE
BRAVE.
THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED-WEAR RED!
MOST OF ALL - GOD BLESS AMERICA

Love At First Sight/ Hit Like You're Blind

Love makes you do crazy things…some of which you definitely did not mean to do.

I’m spoiled right? Well in the right way, I’ve been fortunate enough to find one or two true friends in life, and a man that loves and respects me.
So there I was on a Saturday afternoon driving back from the movies when it occurred to me to check out the
Dodge dealership for new vehicles. We were looking for something that George and I could share since he is 6’5” and the little trucks wouldn’t do it.
That’s when I saw it, it was beautiful...the new Dodge Charger. Needless to say, George agreed that it was nice and roomy and we both liked it so around 8:30p.m. Saturday night we drove off the lot with the new 2006 Dodge Charger, metallic silver/gray, 18” wheels, power everything, heated/leather seats, sun roof, blah blah blah etc.

So there, I fell in-love with the car and I wanted to show it to a friend on Sunday night. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt right? Well, right. I was already parked and I was going to turn the car around, I had already noticed that there were no cars in the parking lot so there was no big deal right? Wrong.

I backed up a little and since there where no cars in the parking lo,t I just drove through the parking spaces. I pressed on the gas and seconds later I felt a thump. I quickly backed up and proceeded in driving and turning the car around as quickly as I could. The first thing that came to mind was that I had hit something and I had just ruined the paint job and I was mortified! Oh to my surprise, it was much worse than I had thought.

As I flashed my lights I realized what the thump was, there was a drainage in the middle of the parking lot covered the a foot high concrete base which I rammed under the car and managed to hit the radiator and God knows what else. I just wanted to disappear, I couldn’t believe my luck. I just did not see it. As of right now the car is in the shop waiting to be re-evaluated after the tear down so that they could check for hidden damages in the motor or transmission. I had busted some hoses because there want anti-freeze all over the parking lot. Boo. My lovely car is sick cuz I was too confident that nothing was going to go wrong.

There goes my record right? I had a clean record until now. I guess the good thing is that I didn’t hit the body of the car, if it gets fixed you really can’t tell it got hit. People keep telling me it could have been worse because I could have hit someone or been hit by some other car.
They say, “It’s just a car.” I don’t think they understand. I still can’t believe my luck, I still feel stupid and that I failed to be responsible enough to make sure nothing could hurt it. They will probably call me sometime today to give me an estimate of the damage and tell me when I will be taking it home. Needless to say, I will not be driving it for a while. Now I’m scared. I stick to my year old Honda Element for a while and then regain my confidence in driving the big car. More updates on the situation later…

So yeah, I am a bit stressed at the time. I hope everything will be okay. People assure me will eventually look back at all this and laugh. Well, ha ha (sarcastic tone), it's not so funny now. I will be extremely cautious in parking lots for a while.

What's It Look Like?

Friday: It is Traci’s birthday tomorrow so the girls and I are going to take her to dinner and some drinks. I suppose I will also watch a late movie with George if time permits. I’ve still been feeling really lousy. I couldn’t stop sneezing yesterday and every time I sneezed my entire body ached, I went to be around 10:30p.m. Nothing a few dirty martinis can’t fix right?

Saturday: Wake up somewhat early. Cook breakfast, bake a cake...well George can do that for me. hahaha Clean up a bit more. I need to work out too. Want to clear the closet and go donate some clothes. In the evening, not sure maybe go to the movies and hang with the guys. Study of course.

Sunday: Mope around a bit. Study. Get ready for the week. Go practice with Carlos or see him perform. George and Jessie will hang out for the day so I can go sing with the mariachi for a bit. I really wanted to see Victor so I’ll probably go visit him.

I guess that’s it. We’ll see what I actually get to do this weekend, it always differs from the actual plan in a way. Boo. That’s life I guess.

Stuff to do..what to decide?

I really have to start eating in the morning. The only problem right now is that I can’t taste anything. I got this stupid cold and food just doesn’t taste great right now. Hmmm…should I drink coffee? I should be taking caffeine out of my diet already but it is the only thing that is keeping me awake at this point. Maybe I can start drinking juice or something but the best thing to start taking is water. For two days of detox I can drink three juices as food, as much water as I want, and vitamins. Yeah, no. I need more than that because I get migraines and then I’m sick so I really need to eat something. Maybe tuna and lettuce and a V8. That sounds good.

I should have been practicing yesterday for the singing bit. I just haven’t had energy and Victor still has my guitar. Maybe tonight if I’m not doing anything. I’ve felt weird and it even bothers me when the t.v. is too loud. I get frustrated easily with noise.

I do like some shows though. I’ve been watching Sex & The City, Nip/Tuck, Lost, Commander In Chief, and Desperate Housewives. Not much else other than that and going to the movies. I should start skating again. My greatest fear is to become a couch potato. Seriously. I want to be more active. Hopefully I can stay busy.

My brother is having his concert on October 29, 2005 and he is asking me to help him handle the backstage organization. He says I can handle it because I can boss people around. Hahaha I like to think that it’s because I can be a bit more organized than him and I can handle the pressure. I’m not even sure of what to wear.
So here I am, trying to plan out the next two weeks. As expected things will get in the way. I have to study for a test on Tuesday anyway.

It's Been A While

I've had a typical weekend I guess. I went to the movies to watch The Constant Garderner on Friday and had dinner at the same time, really.

Then on Saturday I went to watch Lord of War. It was a very sad movie in a very disturbing way. Even though it was a bit morbid and strong, you still felt that you should appreciate your life at the end. I guess it served it's purpose, do you accept yourself as who you are, or do you lie to yourself for the rest of your life, and be something you are not? Hmmm....
I think Nicholas cage did good in that role. I like seeing him be a little paranoid and neurotic, it suits him. What else?

Oh yeah, believe it or not I just watched What Dreams May Come, I know it’s an old movie but I had never really paid attention to it. I really liked it.

Other than that, I haven’t really done much. George baked on Sunday so I had a peace of chocolate cake. I am also kind of psyched out because I have a little performance coming up. I will be singing for the Latino Leadership for the Library event honoring Carlos Fuentes with the International Latino Literature Award, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Downtown. This won’t be until October 21st but I have to start practicing already.

It’s been a while since I’ve done this. My friend Carlos and my brother Jerry are actually getting together with me to help me out. I think I might end up doing a duet or two with him.

Songs will include, but are not limited to:
Sabor A Mi-C
Solament Una Vez-G
Cien Años-D
Desden-D
Tu Solo Tu-F
Perdon- Am or G
La Negra Noche-
Perfidia- G
Amaneci Otra Vez-C
Cuando Decidas Volver- A
Se Me Olvido Otra Vez- A
La Diferencia-D
La Gloria Eres Tu- G
Te Quize Olvidar-
Antologia- C

I’m pretty sure I will add others later but I have to think more about it. It will be for about 40-45mins. so those should be enough. I might take some out and but some others in. Any suggestions?

Well, that’s about it. I have class today and it’s raining outside. Not sure if we are going to have class or if he is just going to cancel it for the evening.

Plans…hmmm LET’S BREAK THEM!!!

So I had told myself I was going to do something extremely productive this week. Yep, there was a day or two of productivity, those of you who didn’t know, my air conditioner was replaced after almost two weeks of not having it. Naturally, I started picking up my place and was over-joyed by the mere idea of carrying stuff to their rightful place and feeling the cool air around me. It felt like a whole new house, no kiddin’.

At any rate, that was the most significant thing. I went to watch Into The Blue with George and Jessie (even though I really didn’t want to watch it), and the movie just felt like it dragged for a while before getting into any really good part. George shared with me that it was probably because you really couldn’t connect with the characters.
I think I agree. It was a good attempt with an ok plot but the performances were not all that. Sorry Paul and Jessica. …ok so Paul looked sort of believable especially when him and Jessica had to kiss..*wink*.

So maybe I’ll go to Broadway Bar after class today. Still not sure. I need to meet a friend for coffee at 5p.m. and then go to class at 5:30p.m. (it will be boring, I wish I didn’t have to go to class). Tomorrow we have plans to go to Carmen’s to watch flamenco dancers. That’s exciting for me, definitely my cup of tea. For those of you that know me, you know what I mean. I wonder if they have decent Sangria there.

So the moral is, whenever you plan to do something productive, at least break your plans for something that is going to be worth it at the end…J
Have an interesting rest of the week!!!

Stuff like this too..

Why Math is Taught in School---- (Written By A Very Wise Man)

I was riding to work yesterday when I observed a female driver cut right in front of a pickup truck, causing him to have to drive on to the shoulder to avoid hitting her. This evidently angered the driver enough that he hung his arm out his window and "flipped" the woman off.

"Man, that guy is stupid," I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in traffic, and here's why: I drive 48 miles each way every day to work.
That's 96 miles each day.
Of these, 16 miles each way is bumper-to-bumper. Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway.
There are 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles.
That works out to be 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars.
Even though the rest of the 32 miles is not bumper-to-bumper, I figure I pass at least another 4,000 cars.
That brings the number to something like 36,000 cars that I pass every day.
Statistically, females drive half of these.
That's 18,000 women drivers! In any given group of females, 1 in 28 has PMS.
That's 642.
According to Cosmopolitan, 70 percent describe their love life as dissatisfying or unrewarding. That's 449.
According to the National Institutes of Health, 22 percent of all females have seriously considered suicide or homicide.
That's 98. And 34 percent describe men as their biggest problem.
That's 33 According to the National Rifle Association, 5 percent of all females carry weapons, and this number is increasing.

That means that EVERY SINGLE DAY, I drive past at least one female that has a lousy love life, thinks men are her biggest problem, has seriously considered suicide or homicide, has PMS, and is armed.Flip one off? I think not......

People send me stuff like this...

So naturally one can only make plans only to find yourself not “having time” to do half of what you said you were going to do. I don’t think I will do the common ritual of going to the movies this weekend. I really wanted to go watch Flight Plan but I’ve been disappointed with movies lately. Most of them, not all, are not really what they claim to be. I have yet to watch a movie that I really enjoy, not only to entertain me but to inspire me. I used to like watching drama or a coming of age flick. I have also enjoyed epics or documentaries too.

I’ve enjoyed brit-cinema in the past but I have not had time to research on new movies. Lately I’ve been watching Asian movies but would like to watch more independent films. I wonder what Christina Ricci is doing right now…hmmm. She has become the queen of Inde-films and some of them are actually really good.

Well we'll see what happens. I might go to a party tonight, I'm not sure.
Have an eventful weekend!!

Worst First Date Ever!!

I just got this from another blog. Funny and embarrasing.
Worst First Date
If you didn't see this on the Tonight show, I hope you're sitting down when you read it. This is probably the funniest date story ever, first date or not! We have all had bad dates... but this takes the cake. This just tells you how tough it is to be single nowadays. This was on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. Jay went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a woman ever had.

The winner described her worst first date experience. There was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize!

She said it was midwinter... snowing and quite cold... and the guy had taken her skiing in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a day trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all, and truly had never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful until they were headed home late that afternoon.

They were driving back down the mountain, when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had that extra latte.

They were about an hour away from anywhere with a rest room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold it, which she did for a while. Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow going, there came a point where she told him that he had better stop and let her pee on the road, or it would be on the front seat of his car.

They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked her pants down and started. In the deep snow she didn't have good footing, so she let her butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman and refrained from peaking.

All she could think about was the relief she felt despite the rather embarrassing nature of the situation. Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation.

As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were firmly glued against the car's fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to pump handles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage her flesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new problem due to the extreme cold.

Horrified by her plight and yet aware of the humour of the moment, she answered her date's concerns about "what is taking so long" with a reply that indeed, she was "freezing her butt off and in need of some assistance!" He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She too, got the giggles and when they finally managed to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma.

Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they also were faced with a real problem. Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly cheeks from the grip of the icy metal!Thinking about what had gotten her into the predicament in the first place, both quickly realized that there was only one way to get her free.

So, as she looked the other way, her first-time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the fender. As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the Tonight Show prize hands down... or perhaps that should be "pants down.”...And you thought your first date was embarrassing.

Jay Leno's comment... "This gives a whole new meaning to being pissed off."
